The cult of denim finds its shrine at the BT2 jeans bar, the largest in Ireland, with over 140 styles across 20 top jean labels. Skinnies, crops and capris usurp last season’s flares with sorbet hues and quixotic prints offering a new spin on the silhouette. J Brand remains the kingpin for pins with its popular mid rise and power stretch styles rivalled by s/s `12s snow leopard print; also parlayed in sugary pastels by A-lister favourite Current/Elliot. Victoria Beckham’s skinnies acquire notice-me status in cobalt and red; with more relaxed straight leg and flare fits dictating the shape of things at 7 for All Mankind and MiH.Whatever the shape, denim fits best with go-to casual staples. The Barbour quilted jacket continues its trend dominance in shots of white and hot pink; while LA labels, Vince, James Pearse and Wildfox; and celebrity favourite T by Alexander Wang redefine laissez-faire in slouchy knits, super soft tees and other luxe off-duty staples.
Clean and simple
A growing confidence underscores the season’s minimalist aesthetic. As clean cuts increasingly define fashion’s intent, designers seek individualisation in print and colour. New York labels like Diane Von Furstenberg and Marc by Marc Jacobs channel their retro-inspired brio this season in a more unassuming way. The dress remains central to both lines – zebra print jersey wrap and vivid colour block shifts for the DVF city girl; strappy polka dot and peek-a-boo broderie anglaise for Marc by Marc’s resort-bound sun seekers. Similarly, Michael Michael Kors, Theory and new label Pure DKNY, take a reductive look at off-duty dressing with Breton stripe separates, shifts, trenchcoats, tailored trousers and classic white shirts across the s/s `12 collections.
